We are taking steps to improve road safety during severe weather events with the installation of a new automatic flood warning sign on Oxley Station Road in Oxley. The sign, powered by solar energy, is designed to activate when nearby waterways reach dangerous levels, alerting motorists that the road is closed due to flooding.
Despite repeated warnings and road closure signs during floods, many drivers still attempt to cross flooded roads, putting themselves and others at risk. The new flood warning sign aims to address this issue by providing a clear and highly visible message to drivers: if it’s flooded, forget it.
When the waterway reaches a certain level, the sign automatically activates, displaying a “Road Closed Due to Flooding” message that is backed by LED lights, making it visible even at night.
Once the sign is activated, it also alerts Brisbane City Council. This ensures that road closures are implemented quickly and efficiently, helping to prevent unnecessary risks to motorists and emergency services personnel.
