The Kooringal Drive Bridge, connecting the Centenary Highway Bikeway and Kooringal Drive, was severely damaged during the 2022 floods. Upon recognising the extent of the damage, we made the decision to remove the remaining structure and embarked on a new design focused on enhanced resilience.
In the past month, we have received the approval for our development application from the State Government, and I’m delighted to confirm that construction is now underway. This bridge serves as a critical active transport connection, and its reinstatement has remained a top priority for our community.
The new design offers substantial improvements in accessibility and heightened resilience against future flood events. Elevated 2.6 meters above the previous bridge and seamlessly connected to a generous 3.6-meter-wide shared pathway, this new bridge will significantly enhance the experience for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The project also includes other enhancements, including a lighting upgrade and scour protection to ensure the creek’s foundations remain safeguarded during future rainfall events.
The contract has been awarded to Doval Construction, based in Sumner Park, and it is expected to be completed in March 2024, pending weather conditions and the acquisition of necessary permits.
